The club was originally founded in 1979 and is the longest established karate club in Lowestoft. Tony Bergin 5th Dan is the clubs senior instructor and he took over the club from Dave Baxter who’s previous instructor was Dave Dickinson. Tony gained his black belt in 1988 and became the senior instructor in 1990. In 1990 the club joined Derek Ridgway’s Kazoku Kai and are still part of that association today. Courses are often held in Lowestoft and also away with guest instructors, these include:
The association has a national squad and competes in the UK as well as Germany and Canada. Students from the Lowestoft club have represented Kazoku Kai in national and international competitions. Karate consists of many styles and variations. Our style of karate is based on the Wado Ryu and Shito Ryu systems. 2009 saw over 40 students and family travel to Okinawa, Japan to train with some of the Okinawan masters. This coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Kazoku Kai. Kazoku broadly translates to family, the club and association fosters friendship and considers all members to be part of one big family. Everyone is welcome to join us and learn the traditional martial art of karate. If you would like further information or would like to pop along for a lesson please contact Tony Bergin on 01502 565839 or byemail |
